Last month will go down as one of the wettest February’s on record across the region.
Paducah National Weather Service Warning Coordination Meteorologist Rick Shanklin tells the News Edge the amount of rainfall has been the most received in the past several years.

He adds most of the Pennyrile region of western Kentucky received over 10 inches of rainfall. Currently, they are not expecting any heavy rainfall events in the near future which will help the region dry out.

According to Shanklin, when the region receives significant amounts of rainfall, it does take a while for the area to completely dry out and lake levels to return to normal.

Major flooding will continue along the lower Ohio River near Paducah and Smithland. Some flooding issues will continue through this week for homes, campsites, and roadways along the Lake Barkley and Kentucky Lake shorelines.
