New KY Driver Licenses To Begin Rolling Out In April

The pilot rollout of Kentucky’s new, secure driver’s licenses is scheduled to begin in April.

According to a release from the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet, the rollout will begin in Franklin and Woodford counties in early April with the other 118 counties to follow approximately two to three weeks afterward. It will take around two months for every county to have the new licenses.

Trigg County Circuit Court Clerk Pam Perry adds people need to prepare now to get the new license. A certified birth certificate, an original social security card (cannot be laminated), and two proofs of residence will be required in order to receive the new license. The license will be mandatory for U.S. domestic flights and to access restricted federal facilities once the REAL ID enforcement begins nationwide on October 1, 2020.
