Two robotics teams from the Christian County Gateway Academy took top honors Saturday at the State Vex Robotics Tournament in Shelbyville.
According to Gateway Academy Principal Penny Knight, teams 8349B and 8349E won state championships Saturday at Martha Layne Collins High School in Shelbyville. The teams include Demarion Beckem, Braden Howell, Ian Gentry, Josh Bush, Jaydn Hicks, McKay Dunn, Calvin Demps and Danny MaCario. The teams are coached by Nathan Hicks and Sean Conley.
The winning teams were among seven teams that competed to earn a spot at state based on their season accomplishments.
The two winning teams will advance to the World Championships that will be held at Freedom Hall in Louisville April 25 through the 28. The World Championship is an invitation only event. Kentucky can send up to 10 teams to world competition.
