Hopkinsville Man Charged With Assault After Sunday Shooting

A Hopkinsville man is charged with first-degree assault after he shot a man on Hancock Street near the intersection with Hazel Street Sunday morning.

According to a Hopkinsville Police report, 42-year-old De’thaniel Thompson turned himself in at the jail after he shot 38-year-old Leandre Watkins in the leg on Hancock Street.

Thompson reportedly tossed the gun used in the area of Cypress Street.

Watkins injuries are not believed to be life-threatening but he was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center.

Three vehicles were hit, with more than 10 shell casings found in the area of the shooting.

Thompson was also arrested for a shooting that happened Wednesday morning on Mclean Avenue where he held his girlfriend 63-year-old Bernetta Watkins at gunpoint and fired multiple rounds as he accused her of cheating.

He was charged with first-degree unlawful imprisonment, possession of a handgun by convicted felon and two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment for the shooting on Mclean Avenue.
