Traffic To Be Diverted Tuesday Morning On Southbound Pennyrile Parkway

A contractor for the Kentucky Transportation Cabinet plans to temporarily divert southbound traffic on the Breathitt-Pennyrile Parkway in northern Christian County starting at 9:00 Tuesday morning.

Public Information Officer Keith Todd reports southbound traffic on the parkway will be diverted off at the U.S. 41 Mannington/Exit 30 Interchange and follow U.S. 41 South to the KY 1628 Hopkinsville Bypass to return to the parkway southbound lanes at Exit 11. The southbound entry ramp at the KY 800 Crofton/Exit 23 Interchange will also be closed while traffic is being diverted.

This diversion of southbound Pennyrile Pkwy traffic is to facilitate the repair of an end treatment on the barrier wall at mile point 19.7 at the start of two-way traffic in the ongoing work zone. Traffic is expected to be diverted along this detour for about three hours.

There should be no impact on northbound traffic. However, motorists should use appropriate caution where equipment and personnel are along the roadway in close proximity to traffic flow.

This work zone is part a reconstruction project along the Pennyrile Parkway that runs from about a mile north of the KY 2642 Overpass starting near mile point 16.5 extending northward to near the U.S. 41 Ramp Overpass at mile point 29.9, a distance of over 13.3 miles.

Hall Contracting of KY, INC., is the prime contractor on this $43.2 million rehab project. The project has a target completion date of August 31, 2019. The Pennyrile Parkway has been designated as a Future I-169 Spur Corridor.
