Attorney For Trigg Murder Suspect Requests Bond Reduction

A Hopkinsville man accused in connection to the November 2018 murder of Joey Hayes appeared in Trigg Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon for a hearing to request his bond be reduced.

James Gentry’s attorney, Micheal Thompson, appeared before Judge C.A. “Woody” Woodall after filing a motion to have his client’s bond reduced.

Commonwealth’s Attorney Carrie Ovey-Wiggins argued the $1 million bond is reasonable given the nature of the offenses and should not be reduced.

Judge Woodall informed Gentry he had not had time to look at his pretrial report and said he would rule on the motion at a pretrial conference next month.

Kentucky State Police Detective Cory Hamby testified at a preliminary hearing in December 2018 that Gentry admitted he was present when Hayes was shot multiple times and that he also transported him to the location where he was killed.

A missing person’s report was filed with the Christian County Sheriff’s Office on November 28, 2018, which stated Gentry was the last person to see Hayes on the Princeton Road around 2:25 that morning when Hayes was following him to a job site.

Hayes body was found around noon on November 28 in a hay barn on a farm located at 412 Buffalo Road in Trigg County. State Police testified that Gentry had lived on the farm in the past and it was owned by a family member.
