LBL Receives Emergency Funds For 2016 Flooding Repairs

Land Between the Lakes received some good news this week. The federal government has released over $4 million in emergency funds in which the U.S. Forest Service says will be used to repair specific water crossings, roads, and trails damaged or destroyed during a 2016 flood.

Lyon County Judge-Executive Wade White has been in Washington D.C. this week and says the federal government has finally released Emergency Relief for Federally Owned (ERF0) Roads program funds for construction projects at Land Between the Lakes.

Forest Service officials say the public will first start seeing repairs on Forest Roads 174, which crosses Downs Creek, and Forest Roads 145, which crosses Crooked Creek, which were both closed due to dangerous road conditions.

LBL Area Supervisor Tina Tilley says the ERFO funding will help them address some badly needed repairs. She notes the public has expressed a lot of interest in Hematite Trail and she’s pleased that a portion of the ERFO funds will go toward repairs on the trail system. She adds the Hematite Trail will lead in priority for trail work with repairs to the boardwalk and wildlife observation area.

In addition, White says he’s excited that funding has been secured to pave roads in LBL.

Forest service officials say they will soon begin the repairs, but weather conditions could impact priority replacement of some the projects.
