Sanctuary, Incorporated in Hopkinsville will be increasing public awareness for sexual assault prevention during a month-long campaign in April.
Sanctuary officials say this year’s theme, “I Ask” will champion the power of asking — whether it be asking to hold someone’s hand, for permission to share personal information with others, or if a partner is interested in sex. They add “I Ask” is the statement by which individuals will demonstrate that asking for consent is a healthy, normal, and a necessary part of everyday interactions, and it will set an example for partners, friends, and loved ones.
Officials say the goal of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month is to raise public awareness about sexual violence and educate communities on how to prevent it.
Some of the activities planned throughout the month include:
– Wear Teal Day on April 3
– A 9-county proclamation signing at the Pennyrile Area Development District office at noon on April 8
– Chalk the Walk on April 10
– Denim Day on April 24
– Papa John’s Rebate Day on April 26 in which 20% of sales of orders placed online will be donated to Sanctuary, Inc.
