Fort Campbell officials will be casing colors next week as soldiers with the 101st Airborne Division prepare to deploy to Ukraine. Army officials announced Friday more than 150 soldiers with the 2nd Brigade Combat Team “Strike,” 101st Airborne Division (Air Assault) will deploy in mid-April for a nine-month tour.
Army officials say the training support is part of ongoing efforts by the United States to contribute to Ukraine’s long-term military reform and is being provoked at the request of the Ukrainian government. The soldiers participating in the mission will be in Ukraine strictly for training and advising purposes and will not be actively involved in operations in Ukraine’s conflict area.
The 2nd Brigade Combat Team will replace the Tennessee National Guard’s 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment, which has been in Ukraine since last summer.
The casing colors ceremony will be held prior to the deployment at 1:00 Friday afternoon, April 12, at the 2nd Brigade Combat Team Headquarters on Fort Campbell.
