Release Conditions Changed For Reckless Homicide Suspect

A Hopkinsville man charged in an alcohol-related traffic death had his release conditions changed in Christian Circuit Court Wednesday afternoon.

Brandon Pickett is charged with reckless homicide and DUI in the death of 49-year old Trina McAllister Akin of Cadiz. The Christian County Sheriff’s Officer reported Akin fell out of his Jeep on Striped Bridge Road on August 28, 2018, and died in the ambulance on the way to the hospital.

Defense attorney, Bill Deatherage, filed a motion to eliminate the alcohol testing as a condition of Pickett’s pretrial release due to the problems it causes when his job requires him to travel out-of-state.

Judge Self shared some of his concerns and ruled in favor of the motion and eliminated the alcohol testing, but reminded Pickett he is still prohibited from drinking.
