A former coach and teacher in the Lyon County School District was arrested over the weekend after an investigation into alleged sexual exploitation-related offenses.
Lyon County Sheriff Brent White reports 33-year old Michael Derek McCuiston of Providence was charged with one count of Tampering with Physical Evidence. White adds McCuiston is suspected of being involved in sexual exploitation related offenses while he was employed with the Lyon County School District. McCuiston is reportedly a former teacher at Lyon County Middle School and coached track and boys soccer at Lyon County High School.
Sheriff White says he received an anonymous call Friday morning regarding a criminal complaint involving a Lyon County Middle School employee. He then contacted Lyon County School Superintendent Russ Tilford and was able to obtain additional information. Kentucky State Police, the school and sheriff’s office collaborated information which led to an investigation and the arrest of McCuiston in Webster County in the early morning hours Saturday. He indicates evidence was seized and has been forwarded to the Kentucky State Police Electronic Crime Branch in Frankfort. White notes additional charges may be pending in Lyon County as a result of the continuing investigation. McCuiston was lodged in the Webster County Jail.
White says law enforcement is working to identify any and all potential victims in this case and will be making contact with parent/guardians if any additional identifications are made. Anyone with information concerning illegal conduct on part of the suspect is asked to contact KSP or the Lyon County Sheriff’s Office.
