KY Cattle Producers Partner With Clothing Store To Fight Hunger

Kentucky’s beef industry is celebrating Beef Month by “Raising the Steaks” against hunger in May. The fundraiser was announced Tuesday when Governor Matt Bevin issued the proclamation and ceremonially signed House Bill 311, legislation that was passed in the 2019 Kentucky General Assembly session that prohibits marketing lab-grown protein products as meat in Kentucky.

This is the second year in a row, the Kentucky Cattlemen’s Association, the Kentucky Beef Council, and Wildcat Wearhouse in Lexington are teaming up on a T-shirt to honor the Commonwealth’s beef cattle industry while helping Kentuckians in need.

Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles says they are grateful for Wildcat Warehouse for generously offering the T-shirt as a way to raise money to feed Kentucky’s hungry. When you buy the T-shirt, he says 50 percent of the proceeds will go to Feeding Kentucky to purchase food for Kentucky food pantries. Quarles hopes everyone will join him in buying a shirt, showing your pride in our beef cattle producers, and helping the less fortunate friends and neighbors get the food they need.

The shirt is priced is $20. To purchase a shirt, there is a link provided in this story on our website.

According to officials, Kentucky is the leading beef cattle state east of the Mississippi River with more than one million beef cows. The National Agriculture Statistics Service reported in its annual survey that cattle sales generated more than $740 million in farm cash receipts in Kentucky in 2017.
