Kentucky Governor Matt Bevin will face the challenge of Attorney General Andy Beshear in the General Election.
Beshear earned the right to challenge Bevin by defeating House of Minority Leader Rocky Adkins, Former State Auditor Adam Edelen, and Geoffrey Young in the Democratic Primary Tuesday, May 21st.
Beshear nearly carried 38 percent of the vote in the Primary Election. Rocky Adkins finished close to Beshear with 31.9 percent of the votes. Adam Edelen came in third place with 27.9 percent of the votes. Geoffrey Young rounded out the field with 2.3 percent of the votes.
Meanwhile, in the Republican primary Governor Matt Bevin won the with 52 percent of the votes in the four-candidate field. Closest to Bevin was Robert Goforth with 39 percent of the votes. William Woods and Ike Lawrence rounded out the voting with a combined total of less than 10 percent.
Andy Beshear says he is ready to challenge Governor Bevin in the November election.
Beshear noted it is time to stop the name calling and get to work for Kentucky.
Earlier in the evening Rocky Adkins conceded the race and pledged his support to Beshear.
Early in the evening, Adam Edelen called on fellow Democrats to make a better Kentucky.
Meanwhile, during remarks at the Governor’s Mansion in Frankfort, Bevin thanked the people of Kentucky for turning out for the election.
Beshear defeated Adkins and Edelen in Christian, Trigg, Caldwell and many other Western Kentucky counties. Adkins picked up a narrow win over Beshear in Todd County.
