The community is invited to an open house Friday at the new Hopkinsville Habitat for Humanity home on Elm Street. Habitat Board Chair Jacob Holland says this is the first new home the organization has built in seven years.
Holland says they are proud of this new home, not just because of the family that it will serve, but because of the collaborative effort by so many businesses, organizations and individuals in the community.
According to Holland, the Board chose the family in September of 2018 through an application and interview process. Once the family was chosen, the process to find a piece of property began, along with the coordinating of building materials, resources, and contractors. He notes this particular home has been unique in that the Hopkinsville Community College Construction and Technology Department partnered with the Hopkinsville Habitat organization. The project not only served as a training opportunity for HCC students, but Holland says it has allowed this home to be completed in a timely manner with minimum costs.
The open house at the new Habitat home will be Friday from 2:00 – 4:00 p.m. at 499 Elm Street.
While the Hopkinsville Habitat organization is celebrating the completion of the Elm Street home, they are currently accepting applications for their next build which they hope to begin in August.
