UPDATE- Shots Fired Report Led To High-Speed Pursuit In Hopkinsville

 

A man is charged with assault and fleeing from police after shooting at a woman and leading police on a high-speed pursuit Wednesday morning.

Hopkinsville Police Lt. Seth Meek said they attempted to stop an SUV after a report of shots fired in the area of Braden Street and the driver 24-year-old Chancelor Averitt fled at speeds of 110MPH.

The pursuit went down multiple city streets before Averitt got onto Pennyrile Parkway. Police used a spike strip on Pennyrile Parkway as he exited onto Eagle Way.

Averitt was arrested, the passenger in the vehicle Crystal Harris was taken by ambulance to Jennie Stuart Medical Center for injuries caused by Averitt hitting her with a gun. Police say Averitt also shot at Harris during the assault.

A gun was located in the SUV and the fire department was called to the scene after the SUV started to burn.

Averitt is charged with first-degree fleeing or evading police, first-degree assault, DUI, kidnapping, and first-degree wanton endangerment.
