A Crofton man is charged with kidnapping after he reportedly held a woman at knifepoint in a church Thursday night.
Hopkinsville Police say 60-year-old Joseph Smith forced his way into Grace Episcopal Church and put a knife to Sheila Evans throat as she begged for her life. During the attack, Evans was pushed to the ground causing injuries to her knee. Evans was able to lock Smith in after he went to the bathroom and she called for police.
When police arrived Smith reportedly came at police with the knife and would not drop the knife, police tased him multiple times. He told police he had the knife out to clean his fingers and he held the knife to her neck on accident.
Smith was wearing gloves at the time of the arrest.
He is charged with kidnapping, first-degree burglary, resisting arrest, and third-degree assault of a police officer.
