A 19-year old suspect charged in connection to a fatal shooting in Hopkinsville last week appeared for a preliminary hearing in Christian District Court Friday morning.
Anshanique Leavell is charged in connection to the murder of 23-year old Amareya Freeman at an apartment complex on Greenville Road last Thursday night.
Leavell and her defense attorney, Michael Thompson, appeared before Judge Foster Cotthoff and waived her case to the grand jury.
Thompson asked for Leavell’s $100,000 bond be reduced, at which time Assistant County Attorney Katherine Foster stated the amount was appropriate and Judge Cotthoff agreed.
The judge added the grand jury had 60 days to indict her on the charges of murder and receiving stolen property (firearm).
The night of the shooting, police reported Leavell shot Freeman in the chest on the front porch of an apartment. He was taken by ambulance to the hospital where he died. Police said Leavell was arrested shortly after the shooting on Russellville Road and East 7th Street. Officers reportedly found her in possession of a stolen handgun.
