Trigg County Board of Education members took action Thursday night to hire a new school board attorney after Howell Hopson recently announced his law firm would not be renewing their contract for the upcoming school year.
Superintendent Travis Hamby said board members selected to employ the lHopkinsville law firm, Deatherage, Myers, & Lackey, PLLC, effective July 1st.
Jack Lackey, Jr., who is also the school board attorney for the Christian County Board of Education, says the firm has over two decades of educational experience and he is looking forward to serving the Trigg County School Board.
In other action, board members also approved the services of the Kentucky School Board Association at a cost of $6,000, plus travel, for the superintendent search and selection. This comes after Superintendent Travis Hamby recently announced he is resigning July 1st to take a position with the Allen County School District.
The Board also approved reatructuring the athletic director’s position after Hamby noted Matt Ladd has been serving in that position as well as the facilities and operations director. He recommended going back to a model that has not been used in the district for a lot of years.
After hearing a presentation from Andrew Owens of SCB Architect, board members approved 175 pages of construction documents for the primary and intermediate renovation project and for SCB to proceed with bidding the project pending approval from the Kentucky Department of Education.
