Christian County Grand Jury Returns Indictments For Rape And Abuse Of Child

The Christian County Grand Jury returned indictments Friday on charges rape and criminal abuse of a child.

The grand jury returned an indictment for 32-year old Orlando Montez Leavell on charges of first-degree rape, first-degree disorderly conduct, second-degree fleeing or evading police, and resisting arrest. The charges stem from May 1, 2019, when Hopkinsville Police report Leavell enticed a woman to an area out of the public’s view from the rail trail then assaulted her and forced her to have intercourse. Leavell was later identified from the video footage from the rail trail and when police attempted to arrest him he fled on foot and made threats towards officers.

The grand jury also indicted Tamelia Thomas on a charge of second-degree criminal abuse of a child under the age of 12. Thomas allegedly subjected a minor child to abuse on February 1, 2019, by placing the child in a situation that could have caused serious physical injury and resulted in torture, cruel confinement, or cruel punishment by allowing the child to be abused.
