Trigg School Board Begins Process To Find New Superintendent

The Trigg County Board of Education began the process Thursday night in selecting their next Superintendent.

A planning meeting was held during their regular board meeting with Kentucky School Board Association (KSBA) Field Consultant Tim Eaton. He says the planning meeting is a way for the board to decide on a timeline for when they would like to hire the next leader of the school district.

Board members learned the first step in the process is releasing an advertisement through KSBA. During the meeting, it was decided an advertisement would start July 15 stating the district is looking for a Superintendent, with interested parties to submit their applications by August 15.

Members also discovered a screening committee would have to be set up. The committee is required to have a board member, one principal, two teachers, one classified staff member, and at least one parent.

The board hopes to have a screening committee established by Friday, August 23, which would give plenty of time to allow teachers, classified staff, and the primary/intermediate parent-teacher association time to elect their members for the committee.

The search comes after Travis Hamby announced he would resign effective July 1 to take a similar position in the Allen County Public School district.

The board voted last week to hire former Superintendent Tim McGinnis as Acting Superintendent until a new one can be hired. The board signed a contract with McGinnis Thursday night that is valid through the end of the year.

In other news, board attorney Howell Hopson thanked the district for allowing him to be their attorney for the last twelve years and wished them the best in looking for their next leader.
