City of Hopkinsville Chief Financial Officer Robert Martin presented city council with the end of the fiscal year financial report at Tuesday night’s meeting. He says the city had a good financial year but adds the downside was some departments were understaffed.
Martin tells the News Edge the year-end number showed approximately $1.2 million better than what they budgeted due, in part, to a surplus in payroll.
He notes the financial numbers are good but it’s at the expense that departments do not have enough employees.
In other business, council members approved the second reading of closing a 55-foot portion of South Kentucky Avenue between Second Street and West Seventh Street that runs along Second Baptist Church.
Council also unanimously approved rezoning Foston Chapel Road off of Eagle Way Bypass and the first reading of closing an alley located behind North Drive.
Also at the meeting, Dedric Holmes and Josh Stallons were sworn by Mayor Carter Hendricks as officers with the Hopkinsville Police Department.
Mayor Hendricks also recognized and presented checks seven groups that participated in the Trash for Cash program. The groups covered a total of 54 miles and collected 7,770 pounds of trash.
