Greenville Road Murder Suspect Indicted By Grand Jury

A Hopkinsville woman charged in connection to a fatal shooting on Greenville Road in June and a Hopkinsville woman who allegedly stole a car and led multiple police agencies on a four-county pursuit were among indictments returned by the Christian County Grand Jury Friday.

19-year old Anshanique Leavell of Hopkinsville was indicted for murder, receiving stolen property (firearm), and complicity to tampering with physical evidence. The charges stem from June 6 when Hopkinsville Police reported she shot 23-year old Amareya Freeman in the chest on the front porch of an apartment. Freeman was taken to the hospital but later died from his injuries. Police said Leavell was arrested during a traffic stop shortly after the shooting and found to be in possession of a stolen gun.

Jessica Payne

The grand jury indicted 43-year old Jessica Kay Payne of Hopkinsville for first-degree robbery, first-degree assault of a police officer, two counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, resisting arrest and DUI with an aggravator. The charges stem from May 26 when police say Payne stole a car at the Holiday Inn in Hopkinsville and fled the scene, but later returned. Police held her at gunpoint while an officer tried to break out the car window, but Payne allegedly hit the officer with the vehicle and then fled on Fort Campbell Boulevard to the Pennyrile Parkway and onto Interstate 24. The pursuit reached speeds of over 120 mph and ended in Lyon County where Payne was taken into custody.

Chancelor Averitt

24-year old Chancelor Rhion Averitt of Hopkinsville was indicted for kidnapping with serious physical injury, first-degree assault – domestic violence, first-degree wanton endangerment, first degree fleeing or evading police, possession of a handgun by a convicted felon, using restricted ammunition during a felony, and DUI with aggravator. The charges are from June 5 when police say Averitt assaulted a female in the area of Braden Street and then fired a shot at her. When police were responding to the scene, they saw Averitt fleeing in a vehicle. He reportedly led officers on a pursuit that reached speeds of 110 mph on multiple city streets and onto the Pennyrile Parkway. He was arrested after police deployed spike strips as he exited onto Eagle Way Bypass.

Darrius Quarles

19-year old Darrius Quarles of Hopkinsville was indicted for six counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, tampering with physical evidence, possession fo a firearm by a convicted felon, receiving stolen property (firearm), second-degree unlawful transaction with a minor, and first-degree complicity to criminal mischief. Hopkinsville Police reported Quarles was arrested on May 20 after a shots fired call at Woodland Heights apartments on Greenville Road in which several vehicles were damaged by gunshots. There were no injuries reported.

Deovion Day

And 19-year old Deovion Monqauis Day of Cadiz was indicted for six counts of first-degree wanton endangerment, six counts of third-degree terroristic threatening, two counts of third-degree unlawful transaction with a minor, six counts of second-degree unlawful imprisonment, and fourth-degree complicity to assault. Hopkinsville Police reported Day helped two juveniles assault another juvenile on November 23, 2018. Day allegedly pointed a gun and threatened anyone that got involved in the fight. Police say the juvenile was injured during the altercation. Day was arrested on a warrant in June.
