Two Oak Grove women were indicted by the Christian County Grand Jury Friday in separate child abuse cases.
44-year old Latarrah Dene Burton of Oak Grove was indicted for first-degree criminal abuse of a child under 12-years of age. According to the arrest warrant, Oak Grove Police stated that on the afternoon of May 10, 2019, Burton abused a male child under 12-years of age by intentionally grabbing the victim around the neck with both hands and then throwing him to the floor aggressively. Police said another individual then intervened to prevent further injury.
The grand jury indicted 23-year old Ashlia Nicole Cussins of Oak Grove on two counts of second-degree criminal abuse of a child under 12-years of age. From December 26, 2018, through February 5, 2019, Oak Grove Police reported that Cussins failed to provide immunizations, medical care, and nutrition to her 6-month old daughter, who was emaciated having only gained 6 ounces since birth. Police said Cussins’ other child, who was about 18-months old, was found to be hungry, underweight, and unable to walk. Since being out of the care of Cussins’ for a few months, police indicate both children have gained weight and the oldest child is now walking.
And 35-year old Desmond Dartez Wilford of Oak Grove and 28-year old Darrell Lamont Majors of Hopkinsville were indicted for first-degree wanton endangerment. Wilford was also indicted for being a convicted felon in possession of a firearm The charges stem from May 2, 2019, when Hopkinsville Police responded to a disturbance at Waffle House on Fort Campbell Boulevard and was told by a witness Wilford and Majors brandished a firearm during an argument. Police reportedly recovered the firearm in the trunk of a vehicle.
