The Hopkinsville Police Department is joining a national campaign to crack down on drunk drivers beginning Friday.
The department says the ‘Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over’ campaign lasts through September 2 and focuses on trying to reduce fatalities connected to drunk driving. They add by joining in on the effort roadways will be made safer through the Labor Day holiday.
According to traffic data, there were more than 4,700 collisions involving alcohol in Kentucky, which resulted in more than 2,400 injuries and 87 fatalities last year. The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration reports there is one alcohol-impaired driving-related fatality every fifty minutes across America and the campaign reduces those fatalities by as much as twenty percent.
