The sanctuary of Cadiz United Methodist Church was packed full of people Saturday night to honor and celebrate LaDonna Diggs, a well-known Trigg County resident.
Church Pastor Scott Wilson says he’s lived in many places and has never met anyone like Diggs.
The special celebration was hosted by the Buffalo Leo Club. President Jacquelyn Stewart thanked Diggs for all of her contributions to Cadiz and Trigg County.
Diggs’ Pastor Kenneth Warton, of Rocky Ridge Baptist Church, says he’s never seen one person bring so many people together.
He thanks God daily for the opportunity to be her pastor.
Trigg County resident Linda Perry says Diggs has been a big part of their family since the 1970s.
Perry notes Diggs spent several nights at their house during her junior and senior years at Trigg County High School if she couldn’t find a ride home after missing the school bus to Wallonia.
Many laughs were shared when Judge Jamus Redd shared a poem he wrote about Diggs. In addition, the Women of Grace and Mercy took the church stage to sing an uplifting worship song.
During the celebration, Cadiz Mayor Todd King declared Saturday, September 7, 2019, as LaDonna Diggs Day.
King also presented her with a key to the city.
Trigg County Treasurer Lucy Oliver Kyler presented Diggs with the Reverend Dr. Tom Martin Community Service Award on behalf of Judge-Executive Hollis Alexander.
Diggs was also presented a wooden piece made by the Trigg County High School engineering class which had a picture of her etched on it and said Class of 1975.
In addition, Trigg County High School is having shirts made that will feature Diggs’ picture and plans to sell them at the home football game on Friday night, September 20. Proceeds will fund a scholarship named after her. Also, during that game, Purdue Field will be renamed LaDonna Diggs Field for the night.
The Buffalo Leo Club hopes to host more events like this in the near future to honor other outstanding Trigg County citizens while they are still alive.
