The Cadiz Rotary Club learned more about the ambulance service at Trigg County Hospital during their weekly meeting.
Jason Meador, Acting EMS Director spoke to Rotarians Tuesday afternoon about what they do daily.
He adds the ambulance service began in 1960 when John R. Vinson started Goodwin Funeral Home. They ran the service until it became too big for them around 1977.
The ambulance service ran as a Basic Life Service until March 2007, when they became Advanced Life Support Service certified meaning they could have paramedics on board.
Meador notes he has a lot of employees in his department.
The experience of his crew runs from anywhere from six months up to 35 years.
Meador says Bill Wood and Frankie Phillips, his two most experienced employees, have taught him a lot since he joined the ambulance crew in 1995.
Over the last few years, the ambulance service has averaged 1,500 runs a year, except for 2,707 runs in 2017. Each year, around 30 of those runs have occurred in the Land Between the Lakes Recreational Area.
The department will be receiving a new ambulance in a few weeks to replace one that has high mileage. Meador reports the cost is over $130,000 and will help ensure they have five ambulances ready at a moments notice.
