Hopkinsville City Council approved Mayor Carter Hendricks’ recommendation Tuesday evening to name a longtime Hopkinsville Fire Department firefighter the next Chief.
Hendricks says Deputy Fire Chief Steven Futrell has excelled in his performance at all levels while serving in the fire department.
Futrell joined the department in July of 1999 and was promoted to Captain in October 2014. He became the Deputy Chief in August 2017.
Futrell becomes the Chief following the retirement of Freddie Montgomery, who announced in June he was retiring on August 1, to become the Chief of the Clarksville Fire Department.
Futrell will officially begin his role as Chief of the Hopkinsville Fire Department on Monday, September 23.
