Hopkinsville City Council Tuesday evening approved the second reading of the 2019 property tax rate and a resolution making 911 dispatchers first responders in Christian County.
The council approved an increase that makes the real property rate 23.9-cents per $100. The rate was approved by an 8-4 vote, with Jason Bell, Jimmy Dossett, Tom Johnson, and Terry Parker casting the nay votes. Mayor Carter Hendricks notes the actual impact of the tax is less than a dollar a month on a $100,000 home.
Council also approved a resolution recognizing dispatchers at the Hopkinsville-Christian County 911 call center as first responders.
Hendricks notes the resolution is a city-county agreement.
During the recognition portion of the meeting, District 3 State Senator Whitney Westerfield was presented the 2019 Friend of the Kentucky League of Cities (KLC) award.
J.D. Chaney, KLC Deputy Executive Director says Westerfield is an ideal statesman in the senate.
Westerfield says it’s an honor and a blessing to serve Hopkinsville and other cities in the 3rd district.
Westerfield has been awarded the Friend of KLC award the last five years.
