The Christian County Chamber of Commerce Military Affairs and the Governmental Affairs committees hosted U.S. Senator Rand Paul Tuesday afternoon to talk about Fort Campbell.
Chamber President/CEO Kelli Pendleton tells the News Edge it’s always great to meet with Senator Paul.
Senator Paul says he always learns more about Fort Campbell when taking part in these discussions.
One thing discussed was how the military installation population is counted during the U.S. Census that takes place every ten years.
Among other topics, the group spoke about the recent decision by President Donald Trump to divert more than $60-million in funding for the U.S./Mexico border wall. The funding was to be utilized to rebuild the former Fort Campbell High School campus for Mahaffey Middle School.
Senator Paul says he was not in favor of that decision.
He notes, despite popular belief, the Supreme Court has not made ruling on what the President has done.
In addition, Senator Paul adds his biggest concern for western Kentucky is the trade war with China. He has heard from many farmers who say the issue is affecting their business and will take the message back to Washington D.C. and President Trump.
