Trigg County Public Schools have released their 2018-2019 state assessment results, which show some improvements for the district.
Assistant Superintendent of Instruction Beth Sumner tells the News Edge all four of their schools received the ranking of 3 out of 5 stars.
She notes students in the intermediate and middle schools are graded based on three indicators, which combine to create the overall score.
High school students are graded on the same indicators, except for growth rate, with a transition rate and the official graduation rate included in their score.
The primary school is considered a feeder school for the intermediate, therefore students are not tested, but receive the same ranking.
The intermediate overall score was 63.7, 65.3 for the middle school, and 66.3 for the high school.
Shannon Burcham, high school Principal, says they had increases across all indicators, with the largest increase coming from Transition Readiness, which saw an increase around 10-points.
Middle school Principal Amy Breckel notes she is proud of their high rating in the area of growth with the KPREP test. She adds it means they are moving kids at all levels and in all demographic areas.
Intermediate Principal Brian Futrell says they will soon be meeting with their Site Based Decision Making Council to set aggressive goals to move their school to a five-star rating in the next four years.
Interim Superintendent Tim McGinnis adds the goal for the district is to be a five-star district within four years, as well.
McGinnis notes the district will focus on six areas to ensure they reach the five-star rating. Those include: assuring students are exposed to high quality and rigorous classroom assessments, assure instruction is driven by solid curriculum, strengthening professional development through highly effective Professional Learning Communities, among others.
