Members of the local judicial community gathered at the Caldwell County Courthouse Friday to honor retired Kentucky Supreme Court Justice Bill Cunningham.
The event gave attendees a chance to view the judge’s portrait, which will hang outside the high court’s chambers at the State Capitol.
Retired Caldwell County Attorney Bridgie Miller said Judge Cunningham always remembered home in over 40 years of serving the state.
56th Circuit Judge Woody Woodall said Judge Cunningham is known as a historian, author, politician, philosopher, friend, and mentor, and another title has been added to that list, that of Professor of Criminal Justice at Murray State University. He said there’s still more, though, to Judge Cunningham.
Judge Cunningham talked about the work it took to upgrade and renovate the courtroom, a project he spearheaded, emphasizing that it was due to the community that the project was ever completed. He also expressed his gratitude to the community because, without them, he would have never been able to do the things he accomplished during his time in the judicial system.
Judge Cunningham noted that he wanted to bring the portrait back to where it all started.

During the event, Judge Cunningham was presented with a gavel made from wood collected on the state Masonic campus, to acknowledge his membership with the national organization.
