A Christian Circuit Court judge heard arguments Wednesday morning regarding a motion requesting bond be set for a former Fort Campbell Army major charged in connection to the 2015 murders of a Pembroke couple and their neighbor.
Christian “Kit” Martin was being held on no bond in the Christian County Jail facing three charges of complicity to murder in the deaths of Calvin and Pam Phillips and Ed Dansereau in November 2015. He is also charged with arson, attempted arson, second-degree burglary and three counts of complicity of tampering with physical evidence.
Christian County Sheriff’s Department Investigative Lieutenant Scott Smith, who was a Kentucky State Police detective when the murders occurred, was called as a witness and questioned by defense attorney, Tom Griffiths and cross-examined by Assistant Attorney General Jeffrey Prather. Following Smith’s testimony, Prather asked Martin’s bond be set at $3 million for several factors, including his military record and he is a flight risk.

Judge Atkins also granted a motion for DNA testing of some hairs collected as evidence. Due to the amount of time it will take the FBI to test mitochondrial DNA, Atkins scheduled a pretrial conference for April 15, 2020.
