Blanchfield Army Community Hospital is postponing a temporary flu vaccine walk-in clinic that was scheduled for next week until new shipments of shots are received.

The hospital reports during the first walk-in clinic staff administered over 1,300 vaccinations. Preventive Medicine Chief Kathryn Ellis says the demand is higher than they were expecting, with only 1,500 doses projected for the first two weeks of the clinic. She adds many non-active duty beneficiaries get vaccinated off post or don’t get vaccinated at all, so they are pleased with the turnout.

The hospital adds the remaining doses will be reserved for high-risk patients in the hospital’s inpatient units and deploying Soldiers until the next shipment arrives. Ellis anticipates additional doses to arrive in the next few weeks from a government-contracted vendor.

Children 35 months and younger and adults age 65 and older can continue to receive the vaccine within their assigned primary care medical home, as there is an adequate supply for these age groups.

Active-duty servicemembers should consult with their medical staff for flu vaccine guidance, as most Soldiers receive the vaccine from their unit medical team.
