Information has been released surrounding a gas leak in Princeton Monday morning.
Princeton Fire Chief Brent Francis says that crews responded to reports of a gas leak in the 300 block of Cherry Street just after 8:00. He adds that crews with Atmos Energy and the Princeton Electric Plant Board were already on scene.
Chief Francis states that crews did evacuate homes within the 300 block of Cherry Street as well as Second Baptist Church. He notes that while the smell associated with natural gas filtered throughout town, it wasn’t actually natural gas residents were smelling.
Emergency officials report that Maple Street was reopened to traffic around 9:30, however, the 300 block of Cherry Street will remain closed until further notice as crews work to repair the broken line.
Ryan Tolbert with Atmos Energy says that their current estimation is to have all gas services returned to residents at 309 and 311 Cherry Street, as well as Second Baptist Church, by 4:00 Monday afternoon. He adds that all homes outside of the 300 block of Cherry Street should not experience any interruptions in gas services.
