The Cadiz/Trigg County Joint Parks and Recreation Board approved to begin the process of designing and implementing a canoe/kayak ramp on Kentucky 272.
During their Wednesday afternoon meeting, Friends of LBL Director of Outreach and Sustainability Jennifer Wheatley says the ramp could boost tourism for Trigg County and the region.
Wheatley adds they are currently in the process of raising awareness of the Land Between the Lakes Regional Water Trails, which includes getting a listing of access points on national websites like Paddle.com.
Cadiz-Trigg County Tourism Director Bill Stevens says they should partner up with the parks and recreation board to pay for the engineering drawings.
Board members approved to move forward with the project, which would see a canoe/kayak ramp built east of the Kentucky 272 bridge, just shy of mile marker 6, near the intersection with Glenwood Mill Road. The board will take bids soon for the project after the engineering drawings are completed.
During discussions, Parks and Recreation Director Jeff Hunter says they may want to start looking for a way to build another gymnasium to be used by everyone. He notes with the renovation projects ongoing at Trigg County Schools they are down a gym for practicing with the youth athletic teams.
In other action, board members approved the audit for fiscal year 2019 that was completed through Calhoun & Company. Debbie Fuller presented the audit to the board noting the account for Trigg County Youth Athletic Association (TCYAA) was in debt.
Fuller adds the biggest expense in the account was for sports equipment.
Hunter says the reason the TCYAA account was in debt is that they don’t charge enough fees to families to cover expenses for the youth sporting teams.
