Several streets will be blocked Saturday afternoon in preparation for the Hopkinsville Electric System and EnergyNet Christmas Parade.
Parks and Recreation Programs Coordinator Pam Rudd says the parade route will begin at Glass Avenue and move south on Main Street to 14th Street.
She notes Glass Avenue will be blocked Saturday afternoon from 2:30 until 6:30. All side streets on Glass Avenue from North Drive to Main Street will also be blocked from 2:30 p.m. until 6:30 p.m. Rudd adds that all side streets on Main Street from Glass Avenue to 14th Street will be blocked from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. She says there will be no parkin gon Main Street from Glass Avenue to 14th Street from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
According to Rudd, only parade participants will be allowed on Glass Avenue Saturday afternoon from 4:00 until 6:30 p.m.
The theme of this year’s parade is “What Christmas Teaches Us” with Hopkinsville Community College President Dr. Alissa Young selected to serve as Grand Marshal.
This year’s float competition also includes a Golf Cart Division, which is open to the public. It’s sponsored by Western Hills Golf Course and prizes will be awarded for first place ($150), second-place ($100), and third-place ($50).
In addition, cash prizes will be awarded for the HES-Energy Net Hopkinsville Christmas Parade Grand Champion Float, Runner-Up, Christian County Chamber of Commerce Best Business and the WHVO/WKDZ People’s Choice Award. The entry fee for parade floats and the Golf Cart Division is $20 and an unwrapped Christmas toy.
The nighttime parade will be held Saturday afternoon, December 14, beginning at 5:15 and officials say they are expecting its largest crowd ever.
