A funeral home director has filed to run for the 5th District State Representative seat.
Mary Beth Imes, a Republican from Murray filed Friday with the Secretary of State’s Office to run for the seat currently held by Larry Elkins, of Murray.
Imes says she has been at the side of her husband, Kenny Imes’ public life since 1966 and that she has seen the way state government operates, participated in committee meetings, and worked with him on reviewing legislative drafts. She adds her experience in the legislative process provides her with a unique understanding and capability to represent the people in Calloway and Trigg counties in a way they deserve.
Imes notes she won’t have all the answers but is prepared to listen to constituents, read legislation and cast votes with a Christian heart.
Both Mary and Kenny own Imes Funeral Home in Murray. Kenny previously held the office from 2013 to 2019 before he was appointed as the Calloway County Judge/Executive.
Elkins retired as the Calloway Judge/Executive in 2018 to run for the seat and has said he would not be seeking reelection.
