Mann Kicks Off Trigg Bicentennial Lecture Series

The Trigg County Historical Society kicked off their bicentennial celebration by learning about local and national radio history.

Edge Media Group President Beth Mann started the Bicentennial Lecture Series that will last through the entire year inside the DJ Everett III Radio Room. She spoke about all of the radios on display within the meeting room and how WKDZ-AM and FM got their start in the Cadiz/Trigg County community.

Mann says WKDZ-AM got its start on April 8, 1966, on Will Jackson Road at a time when many radio stations were not getting federal approval to start operation and remained there for almost 40 years.

She adds the timing for getting the license was perfect, especially since so many important things occurred within the first few years of operation.

Mann notes the most impactful thing to happen with WKDZ was increasing the broadcast power in 2001 and becoming a regional radio station.

One thing that has helped WKDZ is staying relevant.

Mann adds some commonalities that have occurred with every owner of WKDZ is love and loyalty to the community, a desire to serve and to super-serve the listeners.

As the county’s bicentennial celebration continues, Historical Society President Bob Brame says so will the lecture series. On February 4 at 6:00 PM, Jim Wallace will be the featured guest. The historical society meets at 41 Jefferson Street, behind the Trigg County Courthouse in Cadiz.
