Friday was the deadline for individuals in Kentucky to file to run for federal, state and Hopkinsville City Council seats.
Sixteen people have filed seeking the U.S. Senate seat currently held by Republican Mitch McConnell. McConnell has filed seeking another term and will be challenged by five other Republican candidates in the May primary. The Republican candidates for the U.S. Senate seat challenging McConnell are Nicholas Alsager of Campbellsville, Wendell Crow of Coxs Creek, Paul John Frangedakis of Lexington, Louis Grider of Elizabethtown, Naren James of Stanford, Kenneth Lowndes of Wilder, and C. Wesley Morgan of Richmond.
There are also eight Democrats running for the U.S. Senate that will face off in the May primary. The candidates are Jimmy Ausbrooks of Franklin, Charles Booker of Louisville, Mike Broihier of Stanford, Maggie Jo Hilliard of Louisville, Andrew Maynard of Georgetown, Amy McGrath of Lexington, Eric Rothmuller of Louisville, and John Sharpensteen of Bonnieville.
1st District Congressman James Comer has filed for another term in the U.S. House of Representatives. He will face Democrat challenger James Rhodes of Kevil in the general election in November.
For the Kentucky Senate races in our region, Republican Jason Howell of Murray is running for the 1st District seat unopposed after Stan Humphries of Cadiz announced he is not seeking another term, and 3rd District state Senator Whitney Westerfield of Hopkinsville, also a Republican, is also running unopposed.
Those running for the Kentucky House of Representatives in our region include incumbent 4th District state Representative Republican Lynn Bechler of Marion, who will be challenged by Democrat Alonzo Pennington in the November General Election.
Republican Mary Beth Imes of Murray has filed to run for the 5th District seat currently held by Larry Elkins and is unopposed. Republican Walker Thomas of Hopkinsville is seeking another term in the 8th District and will face Democrat Pam Dossett of Hopkinsville in the November general election. Republican 9th District state Representative Myron Dossett is unopposed for another term.

Ward 1: Incumbent Thomas Grant will be challenged by Darvin Adams in the Democrat Primary in May, with the winner to face Republican Natasha Sophie Francis in November
Ward 2: Democrat incumbent Kim McCarley is unopposed
Ward 3: Democrat incumbent Don Ahart will face Aletha West in the May Primary
Ward 4: Democrat incumbent Paul Henson will face Independent Bradley Garabrandt in the General election.
Ward 5: Republican incumbent Amy Craig is unopposed
Ward 6: Democrats Paula Knight and Kenneth Hatzakorzian will square off in the primary, with the winner to face Republican Travis Martin in General Election
Ward 7: Democrat incumbent Terry Parker will face the winner of the Republican Primary between Dustin Gilbert and Richard Covington
Ward 8: Democrat Twyla Parris will face Republican incumbent Tom Johnson in November
Ward 9: Democrat incumbent Patricia Waddell-Bell will be challenged by Ardell Owen in the Primary
Ward 10: Democrat incumbent Jimmy Dossett will face the winner of the Republican primary between Robert Almy, Nichole Eastman and Steve Keel
Ward 11: Democrat Steven Hoover will challenge Republican Jason Bell in the General Election
Ward 12: Democrat incumbent Phillip Brooks will face Republican Matthew Handy in the General Election.
