The community is invited to join in several events this weekend celebrating the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Prior to the fiscal court meeting Tuesday, Christian County Judge/Executive Steve Tribble and Hopkinsville Mayor Carter Hendricks read a proclamation and encouraged all citizens to join in celebrating the legacy of Reverend Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. this weekend.
A special observance at Hopkinsville Community College will be hosted by Hopkinsville businessman and school board member Reverend Tom Bell, together with Focus 21st Century Minority Leadership Program class members Reggie Calloway and Jennifer Bass.
Judge Tribble began reading the proclamation which stated the Focus 21st Century Minority Leadership Program, since 1990, continues to be a voice for Hopkinsville and Christian County.

He notes HCC President Dr. Alissa Young will be the keynote speaker and Todd Douglas will be citing the ‘I Have A Dream’ speech. At the conclusion of the celebration, Bell says the highlight will be elementary, middle and high school students will be presented awards for essay, poem and art contests.Other activities planned for the MLK Jr. celebration this weekend include a ceremony at Virginia Street Baptist Church at 2:30 Sunday afternoon where Reverend Norris Mills will be speaking. The MLK Jr. March and student challenge line up will start Monday morning at 9:30 at the Boys and Girls Club of Hopkinsville-Christian County. Following the march, the MLK Jr program will be held at 1st Street Baptist Church on Moayon Street hosted by the local chapter of the NAACP.
