Christian County Gathered For The Annual MLK March And Ceremony (w/Video)

Residents from all over Christian County gathered at the Boys & Girls Club on Walnut Street Monday morning and marched to First Street Baptist Church for a ceremony to honor the legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.

Hopkinsville/Christian County NAACP Youth Council Member Jaden Ogburn told the packed church it is important that we recognize how far we’ve come as well as how far we have to go.

Ogburn said today we are still being oppressed by law enforcement, government, and even our own people.

Pastor of Flowers Baptist Church in Grenada, Mississippi Rev. Randy Jackson said we are celebrating Dr. King who sacrificed his life for freedom.

Jackson said 30 years ago they started the MLK March and the first march was to a ceremony at First Street Baptist Church.

In the Christian County Public School Challenge, the trophy was awarded to Freedom Elementary School for the most students marching in the MLK parade. Four-year old Steven Poole was the youngest marcher and 79-year old Hugh Northington was the oldest marcher.
