Update – Trigg Residents Killed In Sunday Traffic Crash

Two Trigg County residents died as the result of a traffic crash Sunday night at the intersection of the US 68-80 Bypass and Kentucky 139-The South Road.

Trigg County Coroner John Mark Vinson identified the victims as 21-year-old Branden Phillip Hare and 20-year-old Jarod Ashlee Ballengee, both of Cadiz.  Vinson says Hare, who was driving the car involved in the crash, was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash.  Ballengee was transported to Trigg County Hospital where he was pronounced dead at 8:37 pm.  Vinson says both of the victims died due to blunt force trauma sustained in the accident.

The names of the third person in the car and the driver of the truck involved in the crash have not been released by Kentucky State Police.

Trigg County Sheriff Jason Barnes said shortly after 7:00 the car, being driven by Hare, was northbound on South Road attempting to cross US 68 when the car collided with a westbound truck on US 68.

The car struck a utility pole after the crash.

Barnes said two other people were transported to Trigg County hospital by ambulance. A helicopter was called to the hospital but the full extent of the injuries remains unknown.

The intersection was closed for 4 hours as the crash was investigated.
