Congressman James Comer and Kentucky Agriculture Commissioner Ryan Quarles are praising the EPA for delivering on President Donald Trump’s promise to remove crippling regulations on American farmers by issuing the Navigable Waters Protection Rule.
The new rule replaces the Obama-ear Waters of the United States (WOTUS) rule and reduces government overreach, protects the nation’s navigable waters and creates economic growth across the country.
Congressman Comer said farmers have suffered under the heavy-handed regulations put into place by the Obama Administration. He noted President Donald Trump’s plan of deregulation and ending inconsistent regulatory patchwork is becoming a reality through this new definition for “waters of the United States” (WOTUS). He noted repealing the 2015 Rule will foster regulatory consistency and allow for important projects to move forward.
Ag Commissioner Quarles said Kentucky and American agricultural producers are relieved by the unveiling of the new and improved Waters of the United States rule on Thursday. He noted national and state agricultural organizations, including the American Farm Bureau Federation and Kentucky Farm Bureau, said the 2015 rule placed an undue burden on American farmers and advocated for its replacement.
