Governor Andy Beshear and legislators gathered at the Capitol in Frankfort Tuesday to show bipartisan support and urge lawmakers to pass a bill that would lower the cost of insulin.
According to the governor’s office, the price of insulin has tripled over the last decade without any significant changes to the product. While companies pay $2 to $7 to manufacture a single vial, Kentuckians may be forced to pay more than $1,000 a month.
Governor Beshear notes health care is a human right, but tragically there are far too many Kentuckians at risk of losing their life or permanently damaging their health because they can not afford it.
Representatives Danny Bentley, of Russell and Patti Minter, of Bowling Green, both sponsors of House Bill 12 note it would cap costing sharing requirements for prescription insulin at $100 for a 30-day supply. There are nearly 600,000 Kentuckians suffering from diabetes.
