Thanks to a charitable donation from a non-profit organization, K-9 Kratos with the Trigg County Sheriff’s Office now has new body armor.
Sheriff Jason Barnes tells the News Edge the body armor was donated by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc.
He adds the charity wanted the sheriff’s office to publish on social media they were getting the custom-made vest through donations received by Vested Interest in K9s, Inc, and then publish a picture of the K9 in the protective gear.
Sheriff Barnes says the vest averages around $2,000.
The charity, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc., was established in 2009 and is located in East Taunton, Massachusetts. Its mission is to provide bullet and stab protective vests and other assistance to dogs of law enforcement and related agencies throughout the United States. Since its inception, Vested Interest in K9s, Inc. has provided over 3,800 U.S. made, custom-fitted, certified protective vests in 50 states, through private and corporate donations, at a value of $6.9 million.
Sheriff Barnes indicates there are an estimated 30,000 law enforcement K9s throughout the U.S.
