More Than 40 People Tested For COVID-19 In Trigg County

As of Monday morning, Trigg County had no confirmed cases of COVID-19, but Trigg County Hospital Medical Director Dr. Shea Godwin says they are testing people who are showing symptoms.

Dr. Godwin tells the News Edge they have swabbed approximately 40 patients.

Dr. Godwin hopes with the announcement test result turn around times will become quicker.

She adds currently the United States COVID-19 death rate is about 1.25% or over 2% less than Italy.

Dr. Godwin says since Italy did not impose a travel restriction early enough that could partly attribute to their higher death rate.

Dr. Godwin states as of Monday morning, out of the 103 confirmed Kentucky COVID-19 cases, only 6% of them were admitted into an ICU because of severe respiratory issues.

In addition, Dr. Godwin says patient concern rose after the first confirmed case of the coronavirus in Christian County Thursday afternoon.

Dr. Godwin adds just because a patient shows up and requests a test, doesn’t mean they will be tested. She says a decision for a test will be made at the discretion of a medical provider and under current regulations on trying to preserve equipment and supplies.
