U.S. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell announced Tuesday the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development has awarded more than $39.3-million to Kentucky communities, including Hopkinsville, to be used in the response to the coronavirus.
According to McConnell’s office, the city of Hopkinsville will receive over $159,000, with the Kentucky Nonentitlement fund getting over $24.5-million.
McConnell says the federal funds were made available by the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security (CARES) Act – the largest economic recuse package in history. He adds the funds are a part of the Community Development Block Grants, Emergency Solutions Grants, and Housing Opportunities of Persons with AIDS Grant programs. All of the programs will provide targeted assistance to encourage economic development, address the needs of homeless Kentuckians in emergency transition shelters, and support local services for other residents in need.
