Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Schools and the Stewart County School District have announced schools will be closed the remainder of the school year.
Officials with the school districts said the decision is in accordance with Tennessee Governor Bill Lee’s recommendation at a news conference Wednesday that schools stay closed the rest of the school year for the wellbeing and safety of every Tennessean and child during the COVID-19 pandemic.
Officials with Clarksville-Montgomery County Public Schools stated in a social media post on Wednesday the district will close and continue to focus on providing social, emotional, and academic supports for students. They add the district’s Continued Learning Library will be updated so students can have resources they need to stay engaged in learning, and teachers and administrators will continue weekly calls to support students and close achievement gaps. Additionally, the district will continue its meal distributions through May 22.
Officials with the school district said faculty, staff, and administrators will be ready to greet students when the 2020-2021 school year beginning in August.
In Stewart County, Director of Schools Mike Craig said in a social media post on Thursday that plans for the high school graduation are being finalized and a date will be announced soon.
He also said meals will continue to be distributed and enrichment materials will be updated on April 27th.
Craig added information on procedures to pick up personal property, turn in school property, and receive final report cards and yearbooks, etc. will be announced in the next two weeks.
He said they look forward to returning to school in August.
