The Kentucky Transportation Cabinet is alerting motorists of roaming paint caravans that will begin appearing on state highways this week.
KYTC spokesperson Keirsten Jaggers says that traffic paint striping activities across the 11 counties of District 2, which includes Caldwell, Christian, and Hopkins counties, began Tuesday and will continue during daylight hours anytime weather permits over the next several weeks.
While the reflective paint is a special fast-drying formula, she is reminding motorists to avoid driving through fresh paint. Jaggers notes that paint caravans will be running slower than normal highway speeds and paint trucks and support vehicles will be making several passes on each highway segment to place reflective paint along edges and down the centerline. To complete their work in a timely manner the paint caravans will have to run for extended distances before pulling over to let traffic pass.
She states that these mobile caravans will be working along all types of highways and motorists are being asked to use appropriate caution and exercise patience as these crews go about their efforts to make highways safer for everyone.
KYTC District 2 is responsible for 3,300 miles of highway in Caldwell, Christian, Daviess, Hancock, Henderson, Hopkins, McLean, Muhlenberg, Ohio, Union, and Webster counties.
