The Todd County Board of Education has hired a new superintendent to lead the school district.
According to school officials, board members voted unanimously at a special called meeting Friday to hire 49-year old Mark Thomas, who introduced himself to the Todd County Education Community via a live stream.
Thomas said he will work tirelessly to promote student achievement along with success for the district and community. Thomas added that he believes that together they can build a positive, cohesive climate to ensure the Todd County School District will continue to be considered as a pacesetter in the Commonwealth. He said he looks forward to meeting everyone and becoming a part of the Todd County community.
School officials said Thomas began his career in Shelby County as a middle school teacher in 1996 and for 20 of the 24-years he has been in education he has served in various school and administrative roles. He has served as Assistant Principal, Principal, Instructional Supervisor, Assistant Superintendent, Executive Director of Instruction, Chief Academic Officer, and Director of Operations in these administrative positions in the Franklin, Nelson, Clark, and Spencer County School Districts.
According to school officials, the Board received 11 applications for the position and interviewed 4 finalists in their search to replace former superintendent, Edwin Oyler.
Thomas will begin his position as superintendent on July 1, 2020.
